With a big league game on Tuesday, I didn't want to play 2 games on Monday night. So the tournament director has changed the tournament around.

Normally the winners of the first four games play again that night, but if Northwood wins against
Temescal Canyon, then the losers of the first four games will play again on Monday at 7 & 8 pm. That means
the four winners on Monday would play at 3 & 4 pm on Friday and again at 7 & 8 pm with the teams losing
their first games playing the 5 & 6 pm games. It's really not that complicated if you look at the schedule. The
top two from this group would advance to Northwood on Saturday, the 2nd two go to Beckman, the 3rd two
go to Yorba Linda and the last 2 go to Katella as usual.

With the lack of coaches that we will have for the Fall, Northwood High School will not be able to offer an off-season program. I strongly recommend that as players you play club in the off-season. I don't have any preference of what club you play with.

I know that the Northwood Water Polo Club will practice MWTH from 7:30pm to 9pm and they start practice August 29, 2011 and they workout at the Northwood Pool. For more info please visit www.northwoodwaterpolo.com. Please note this is not affiliated with Northwood High School

The club is very happy to have a very special guest coach this week at
Northwood WPC. Ivan Rackov, a member of the Cal Bears water polo
program and the 2011 Cutino Award winner will be coaching all week
with Coach Jure. This is an unbelievable opportunity to be coached by
the best collegiate water polo player in the USA. If you're
interested in some individual instruction with Ivan, please contact

Ivan Rackov of UC Berkley and Annika Dries of Stanford are the 2011
winners of the Peter J. Cutino Award. For those unaware, the Peter J.
Cutino award is considered the Heisman Trophy of college water polo.
It is awarded to the best player in the collegiate game. Seven
different male players have taken home the Cutino (Tony Azevado won
four times), while 12 different females have won the award (Cami Craig
is the only female to claim the award twice).

Rackov is only the second Golden Bear to win Cutino award. The native
from Belgrade, Serbia, who was named the 2010 Player of the Year by
the Association of Collegiate Water Polo Coaches, led the MPSF with 79
goals while adding 82 assists and 70 steals on the season. He also
guided the Bears to the NCAA Championship game before losing a
heartbreaker in overtime 12-10 to USC.

1. Our website will have all updates and information about what's happening. It will be your responsability as a player to be informed. I will not send emails out or contact you individually, so please make the website your home page or check it frequently. www.northwoodwaterpolo.blogspot.com

2. Summer camp will begin Monday June 27, 2011 and end July 29, 2011. Boys will START @ 6am. Please have running shoes/socks, athletic wear, practice speedo/goggles/water bottle. Girls will start at 10:15am, (i realize some of you may arrive tardy because of summer school, that's ok), girls please bring the same gear, and a swim cap to keep your hair out of the way.

3. Before you start working out, please have your physical, emergency card and donation of $175 to the NHS (B or G) WATER POLO.

4. I will not talk to parents during practice times and practices are closed. We will allow spectators to come watch scrimmages that are set up. See calander on website.

5. Have nail clippers on your key chain and make sure finger and toe nails are cut at ALL TIMES

6. Get up to the minute information on your phone using the NHS Water Polo Twitter. Very easy to set up, if you can recieve text on your phone than you can use twitter. It comes in handy when there have been game changes/location changes etc... www.twitter.com/nhswaterpolo

7. Suggestion for boys @ 6am, eat light, fruit, wheat bread with jam, etc...drink plenty of fluids.

8. Don't miss practice.

Physicals and Musculoskeletal info

We have our Musculoskeletal Screening on Tuesday, May 24th from 4:30 – 6:30 pm in the NHS Media Center. This is a good opportunity to complete this part of the athletic physical while helping to raise funds for NHS athletic programs. If they are a 10th or 12th grader this is all they need and they will be done.

They need to pick up the physical form in the office from Carmen before they attend the MSK because they need parent consent. A suggested donation of $25 for the MSK. All grade levels physical forms are color coded for next year so please inform your athlete to get the correct color.

High School - Tuesday and Thursday - 4PM-5:30PM - Coach Steve Carrera. Starts 3/8/11.

This is for players of all levels. Varsity/JV/Frosh-Soph. Boys and Girls.

The Cost is $200, this is not mandatory for High School but it is recommended.

If kids are doing other clubs, they will not be charged for the session and can still practice.

The goal is to start playing together and to give everyone an oppurtunity to sharpen and/or improve skills. This does not take the place of NHS Swimming.

For those of you who don't know Coach Steve Carrera, he is the head coach of the Northwood Water Polo Club, Concordia University (top 10 team in the country), and former Northwood High School Water Polo Coach taking all his teams to the quarter finals and finals of the CIF playoffs and winning the Masters Championship in 2006 (best HS team in the state of CA). He is a very experienced and knowledgable coach. He is also my brother, and cares about the high school program as much as I do.

Friday the Varsity Girls play at 3:50pm @ Orange High School. If we win we play again at 6:20pm if we lose we play at 7:10pm that Friday.

The girls Varsity will play at 4:40pm at Orange High School. Varsity will meet at 2pm at the NHS pool, bus will leave at 2:40pm. Frosh Soph JV will havw normal practice @ NHS.

Boys Off Season Training 11/29/10

Hi All,

Beginning 11/29/10 we will begin off season boys high school. We will workout from 2pm-4pm on the DATES ATTACHED.

We will lift for 45 minutes and we will get in the water and work on speed, leg strength, and shooting for 1 hour 15 min.

We will enter 1 tournament as a high school team (Winter Fest 2011). 18 and under. Only the top 15 players will go.

We will also have scrimmages bi-weekly leading up to Winter Fest.

Participation fee: $135 it will include the tournament fee.
Make checks payable to : NHS BOYS WATER POLO.

After the Winter Fest Tournament, you all come back and begin NHS Swim Team. No Exceptions. If you don't swim, you will NOT play Varsity.

Club water polo will not be a valid reason to not swim. You may continue to do club but your priority will be swimming.

Welcome to the start of our Girls Water Polo Season!

looking for a sign up. Then it will take you to a couple choices, we are NHS
Girls Water Polo Snack Bar.

We ask that each family take at least one shift for our snack bar. It's a fun
job and you get a great view of the game. The money we make from the snack bar
helps offset the cost of our banquet and any other miscellaneous
items/activities during the season.

To start off our snack bar, we're asking for $25 from each player. The girls
can give it to either Allie or Nicole Flath at practice.

Each Tuesday before League games, families host a pasta party. These are fun to
do, it's neat to get to know the girls and they have a great time. You can do
it alone or share with someone.

Also, we will have a Holiday Pasta Party/Gift Exchange. Each girl should bring
a $10 gift to exchange. It will be held at Allie and Nicole Flath's house, more
information will follow.

Hi Ladies,

I'm Mrs. Dillard (Sierra's Mom). I will be taking care of all the apparel ordering for this season. I need you to please email me what your cap # is going to be and which level you are on (JV or Varsity, or a 3rd I don't know about). Final review and approval of your cap # will be through Ed & Jure prior to ordering.

Regarding sizes I suggest you befriend a returning player that has some of the items and check out how the sizes run before you order what you need or want. Parkas STRONGLY recommended since it will be COLD some days in January & February and it will be your best friend.

Those of you that are new this season WELCOME to the TEAM glad you joined. Those of you returning WELCOME BACK. Each of you has a strength you bring to the team so take the challenge of being a mentor and choose a new team member and share your skills and help them find what their strength is. It's going to be a super year and hope we can all come together and have a few team bonding gatherings. I'm not the Mom in charge of that area but I know the coaches always encourage those activities. I did hear no practice over Christmas break... someone plan a social before break.

I look forward to the upcoming season & continuing my practice of taking action shots & candids to share with the team throughout the season. Who would of known waterpolo is one of the most challenging sports to photograph. Thust lies the fun for me.

Army of Sun in NAMM's SchoolJam USA Semi-Finals!

Hey everyone. Army of Sun is excited to have been selected as a semi-finalist for Schooljam USA sponsored by NAMM. Over 150 bands submitted, and we are one of 48 that made the semi-finals. We are one of 12 bands competing in the West region, and 2 bands from the West will advance to the Finals based on the number of votes received. If we make it to the Finals, we will play with 9 other bands from around the country at Downtown Disney in January as part of the huge NAMM Convention. Also, all finalists receive money donated to their school’s music program (Northwood High School).
